FRAG-a-THON 2008 (SMo-g v6.3) Feb 29 - Mar 2, 2008

As some of you may or may not be aware, SpokLAN.net hosts a 40 hour charity fundraiser event for Gonzaga University's April's Angels. This will be our 5th year for this event, and will be our biggest and best one "evar".

When: 8 PM Friday February 29th, 2008 to Noon Sunday March 2nd, 2008.
Where: The Globe, Cataldo Hall, Gonzaga University.
Cost: $25.00 -- includes a highly coveted FRAG-a-THON shirt.
Other: We ask that you do your best to get at least $25.00 in pledges so we can reach our goal of $2500.00 this year. The top three fundraisers will be awarded with some nice swag as a thank you and to rub it in the face of those that did not raise as much money.

There will be 102 seats available... yes, 102! 72 PC, 24 Console, and 6 'staff'.

Special Events during FRAG-a-THON 2008:

IRON SMo-gger -- Who's' the BEST all around gamer? We'll find out
Catapult Battle -- Toss a nickel at some plastic men and be declared the champion.
Last Man Standing 250 -- it takes a while...
3 AM poker SMo-gament -- brain dead while playing poker. What could be more fun?

The fun is more than you've likely ever had -- sleep deprivation does wonderful things to increase the silliness that will ensue.

Pledges:
Over the years, what will work best for you is to have an envelope along with your pledge sheet so you can get they money up front from your pledger. Getting pledges of $5.00 or $10.00 will add up very fast and by getting the funds up front you are not tracking people down. Evil people you know will pledge you by the hour -- avoid this if you can. If they insist on pledging you by the hour, make them pony up AT LEAST $1.00 an hour to make it worth your time.
Hit up your boss for a possible corporate donation -- that will get your total going up very quickly.
Remember, the top three fund raisers will be get some nice swag as a thank you.

Other FAQs
Do I have to stay awake the entire 40 hours?
Only if you have been pledged by the hour and do not wish to lose any pledge money. You are free to take a quick break if you need -- but keep in mind that the purpose is the "Frag 4 kidz" Smile

If I Have hourly pledges, are there are any breaks?
Yes, you are allowed four, one hour breaks during the FRAG-a-THON.

Are there breaks during the Iron SMo-gger Event?
No... it is one event after the other. There will be very short bathroom breaks allowed between events, but that is it. It starts and continues until it is completed and we have crowned an Iron SMo-gger for 2008

Food? Beverages? Caffeine?
We are working very hard at making sure that we are all fed, watered, sugared up and pumped full of caffeine during the FRAG-a-THON. We will be playing by Sodhexo's rules since they have the catering contract at GU. We will be providing the following "meals":

Hopefully we will be able to provide snacks and such during the event as well.

Is there such thing at too much Caffeine?
Oh hell yes there is. During our second FRAG-a-THON, we had to take a gamer to the ER ... not pretty when someone's blood pressure is waaaay to high and their heart rate at about 150. Lots of water is good during an event like this.

Its our own computers right? Its SpoCon that we are getting computers provided correct?

For SpoCon we will be recruiting for as many folks to allow the use of their computers for general purpose use during the Con.

Oh... if there is enough [HOOD] interest for the FRAG-a-THON, I will gladly block out some seats at one end of the middle set of tables. But I'm gonna need a good number of you to sign up and stuff. M'kay?

I don't see any HOODies signed up for this. This is a great cause for which timmeh has raised quite a bit of money for in the past.

Well, if I could leave then come back (for about 3 or 4 hours) then I would do it.....but I have appointments on Saturdays that I cannot get out of until April...

Once again, a very successful FRAG-a-THON!

Today is "fun" from a mental standpoint due to sleep deprivation Smile

.

Duece swung by and said "hi" and visited for a bit, and a big thanks to RynDog for the fantastic shirt designs, Brusky (and his dad Larry) for the great support you always show our event, and to Howie for dropping the shirts off on his way home!

So, even tho there were no [HOOD] at the event, [HOOD] was very much involved.

We are setting dates for next year this week... yes, to get the space we were in, we need to book it a year in advance ... and it's an awesome space. So next year, [HOOD] attendance will be highly encouraged.

Im a little crazy and somtimes weird but there is never a dull moment.

We raised $1,495 this year... down quite a bit from previous years, but we also had a smaller turnout, and sponsorship is getting tougher with the "mega-lans" sucking up most of what used to be available for us smaller events.

Next year, I expect at least ONE [HOOD] to sign up and help raise money 4 kidz. I should have dates for FRAG-a-THON 2009 in a week or so, so you won't have any excuses for NOT being there. None... I year to plan the time, come up with admission fee, and get pledges... If you come up with an excuse after a year... then I just don't know about you.
