New [HOOD] Site Preview

Started working on the new site last week, and its gonna be bad ass. I got the main forums all set up, tweaked and hacked them up. Took a bit of time learning the new phpbb3 configurations. There still alot to be done still. Here are some cool features I'll rattle off:

Users will have a brand new control panel with tons of abilities to add bookmarks, manange/join user groups, edit profile info and more!
All posts/threads have options to print, report abuse to admins/moderators (thats for Ted) and more!
Users will be able to upload photos and attatchments to thier posts.
Moderators will have a seperate Moderator Control panel for running the board, approving news, managing users and user groups and more!
The layout of the site is very simalar to the current one for ease of use (you all seem to like it). The colors of the site are similar as well (Blue with yellow and white highlights - see the preview below).
New posters ranking system up to 3000 posts.
There will be an actuall portal page with stats, server info, calendar and more!
Announcements and stickies will have a time option to remain as such until a specified time!
Announcements also have two optioins (regular or global). Regular announements are shown in each forum catagory only, global announcenments are show throughout the whole forum.
Subforums are now being introduced for gaming areas (cleaning up the main index page - see the preview below)
We are bringing back the online arcade. You will be able to play a ton of different games, originals and classics (Asteroids, Space Invaders, Frogger), and challenge other users and thier scores (we had this before).

Theres a ton of more stuff, but thats some of the cool things new. Its going to be weeks before I finish this thing. Im gone all next weekend and probably won't get much time to work on the site again until after then. But it is comming along. Heres a screen shot:

So, I need some opinions.

On the new site I was thinking about going 'forum style' for the seperate sections like BF2, TF2, L2 and WOW. In other words instead of making an acutall page, I would make a new forum post with all the server type information/rules/server etc. This was it would be editable by any moderator or more specifically admins or leaders of those games. They could update and change information, links to downloads... etc. This just mean it would be a forum post I make, and not its own real page like we have now. Would look a bit... umm... not as pretty, but it would be easliy edited and updated.

What do you think? I can still make it pretty.... however it would just really be a pretty forum post.

At this point bro? i would go with whats easiest for you. The way it is now, has a nice feel to it, but yea only you can edit it. That means you are doing ALL the work heh. I say make it a forum post. We can still throw in images and links and all that jazz, and this way I can admin that stuff for you, keep it updated (along with leaders of the various groups). Along with that, we can add more games to the list, easier. I am totally willing to being in charge of upkeeping the "history" and stats about the games we played and play:)

i think thats the way will do it then... it will be easier for more people to edit. on site site you have to edit an actually php / temlate files

unless there is a mod that will gove moderators persmissions to change content on 'new' blank pages. ill look into that after i get the portal up.

Honestly with the way you can do links and images (even formating it to be on a certain spot) I think a post is fine. Like I said I really do not mind being in charge of that stuff, keeping it updated and what not.

side note.

If we do decide to do a good amount of forum sections for games, example- TF2, BF2, L2, COD4... are we going to do groups per section? or just make it so when you are in the HOOD members group you access all? Once we get more interest in those other games I would say just make it one big group, other wise its just going to be me in COD4 group lol, and I want anyone and everyone to be able to see and post in COD4 related stuff, helps build interest and all Smile

I agree with Klown...members should see what other members are playing and saying...

too bad we couldn't have an Xfire-like interface in a sidebar to see what all the members are playing in semi-realtime.

I used to know a guy who had a program that would tell who is on TS, and do a live stat on his webpage. It was pretty slick, but I dont remember any of it heh. As far as xfire goes, thats the best I can think of heh. Unless you could have the web page have its own user.... and have us all added as friends... them some how show that friends list?

there are lots of modules out there fir PHP websites...just have search around and see if someone has thought of this before...maybe its based on the member logon??

Im very excited to say that tonight I solved a road block I was into for a few days concerning the birthday mod. Things should move a little more quickly now. Im about to start adding content. I have a few more mods to add and test, and then the content. Its taking a bit, but its going to be worth it. A new version of this current site is out, but im not going to bother with doing anything with this site much anymore. Get ready, prolly just a few more weeks or less.

Sweetness! any idea if our forum topics and post counts will carry over to new site? personally i dont care to much about post count, im not a post whore, but there are a number of topics that would be awesome to carry over, like the 3 word story if nothing else. It sill has ol' Pattys name on it...

It would be nice to carry over the topics, since then we wouldn't have to restart them.

The new site will have most everything from scratch. New accounts, new posts, new everything. Its a whole new back end code, and though it is possible to convert, its not wise or feasable timewise. So this site WILL be archived. However, as the version go on I will not be updated this site, and eventually someone will hack into it. Could be next week, could be in 20 years. You will have the oportuniy to move posts or valuable items over to the new site. I will be taking care of all the stuff like patmanns page, the posts and what not.

As far as the 3 word story. I will leave it up to you guys. In my opinion it would be cool to close the story and make and actually book/ebook out of it with credits for everyone that put posts into it, and archive it on the new site as a finished story (dedicated to patmann of course). Starting a new one on the new site would help generate some new and refeshenss.

So, the ultimate answer is no. Everything will be fresh, but this site will stay archived as a read only site for as long as it is humanly possible.
